POETRY PLUS PROGRAMME OCT 25 – SEP 26
Poetry Plus is a small group of members who enjoy exploring the lives and styles of interesting and often lesser well known poets. We meet on the second Friday of the month in each other’s house for two hours, starting 2 pm.
We wound up our last year’s programme with a light hearted look at the contribution to poetry made by Dorothy Parker, an American poet, playwright and writer of fiction, well known for her ‘caustic wisecracks’. It was led by a visiting speaker, an erstwhile member of our group, Pat Main. Her lively style reminded us of what we lost when she moved. Next June we shall be looking for another guest speaker or (hopefully) her return with yet another firecracker.
Over the last 2 years we have been sharing war poetry in November and as a result we recently agreed to become members of The Friends of Dymock Poets Society which has a wide range of interesting activities.
At each meeting a group member tells us something about the life of a chosen poet, and then we can all offer to read and share their poems. This year we will be finding out about Robert Herrick, William Blake, Seamus Heaney, Elizabeth Bishop, Anne Sexton, Chaucer, Eleanor Farjeon, and Walter Scott. If any of these appeal to you, please come along and listen to what we have found out, if none of them do, come along anyway, and let us change your mind. We’re only a small group and we would love a few new faces.
