We explore, experiment and enjoy different crafts and textile techniques, although there is probably a leaning to more textile activities. This reflects the interests of the members at the moment. We all have different skills, whether stitching, knitting, crochet etc to share but also enjoy learning new ones.
Most months we have a focus activity, although this will sometimes last for 2 or 3 meetings. Sometimes we have a ‘Bring your Own Work’ session and it’s always interesting to see what people are doing, and we enjoy working and chatting together.
Recently we have had a go at various hand-stitching techniques, including Boro and Shasiko which are Japanese forms of stitching and patchwork that encompass the spirit of reusing, recycling and visible mending so popular at the moment. We spent a lovely summer afternoon in a member’s garden experimenting with Indigo dyeing. Something completely different for most of us was a couple of sessions of sugarcraft. Otherwise we have tried various types of printing and making Christmas decorations.
We meet in the Gabriel Hale room at Dursley Methodist Church. The meeting always includes a break for tea, coffee and cake. We are a very friendly group so do join us if you are tempted or just come along and get a feel of what we do. Just get in touch with me, using the link at Group leader at the top of the page.
