Our fledgling Sustainable Floristry group, established in March 2024, has exceeded all expectations by making a sensational debut at the Slimbridge Gardening Club Summer Show. The group’s one-colour arrangements were met with admiration, with Margaret Sheldon earning third prize and Rosie Diggins receiving highly commended. In the highly competitive miniature class, group member Sarah Davis claimed first place, showcasing the exceptional talent within our group. Group leader Danielle Ellis also excelled, securing second place in the 'Floral Arrangement in a Cake Tin' category and third place in the same miniature class.
Inspired by the event, several members ventured into other categories entering for the first time, broadening the group’s success. Danielle Ellis continued her winning streak with a first prize for her impressive 'Cake Fit for a Centurion' and a third prize for her outstanding collection of fruit, including a homegrown lemon! Teresa Walton’s delicious cheese scones claimed first prize with Sarah Davis third, while Margaret Sheldon’s cherry cake earned her third place. Julie McFarland came top for her runner beans and second for her truss of tomatoes. Jenny Henderson also brought home a prize for the longest runner bean. Lyndsey entered more than 30 classes with much success.

The group always uses sustainable mechanics and sources flowers from our gardens or grown in Britain.
A great achievement for our Floristry Class which was only set up in March 2024. We are incredibly proud of our members’ achievements. Their passion and creativity have truly shone. This outstanding performance sets a high bar for future shows!
