11th April 2025 - The Beatles Complete

MOTO Dancing Queens

Not Abba but The Beatles Complete.

Fabulous night at the Chantry Centre, with this Beatles tribute band giving a full house a nostalgic dance party. Here we have members Jackie Hall and Jacky Ling exercising their ‘Twist’ skills in the pink spotlight, and Jacky Ling with her Dancing Prize (1 of only 2 awarded against some fierce competition). Well done girls!

31st January 2025 - Skittles

So we arrived at the Skittles Alley without much idea of how to play. However, Luke Wilson (who was supposed to be playing Table Tennis) arrived to sort us out and we soon got the hang of it.

Austin Panes won, but judging by the scores, I don't think our regular Skittles Group needs to fear the competition! Afterwards some players continued to the Old Spot for lunch.

15th September 2024 Strictly Exhibition

Nine members of MOTO group visited Berkeley Castle, to view Strictly Come Dancing Exhibition on Sunday September 14th.

It was truly amazing to see the intricate designs, and exquisite craftsmanship of the 15 costumes on display in the Grand Hall.  It took me back to my childhood when one went to the cinema to see film stars  (I wasn't old enough to go to shows in the West End!) to the glamour and glitz of a bygone age.  It was lovely to see such sheer elegance, and style that in my opinion is sadly lacking today.

After the viewing, eight of the group enjoyed an excellent guided tour of the castle.

We were fortunate that there was also a very nice craft market outside the newly purpose built cafe.

The exhibition is on to the 31st October 2024 Wednesday to Sunday.

The Importance of Being Earnest 24th August 2024

A picnic in the garden and then 'The Importance of being Earnest@ by Oscar Wilde. After a terrible day weatherwise, things improved and we were able to enjoy our picnic in the lovely garden at the Chantry Centre. The play was hilarious, with Lady Bracknell, the Butler, the Gardener and the Vicar all being played by the same actor.

Sunday Lunch, Parsonage53, 24th March 2024

A group of eleven MOTO members met for Sunday lunch at Parsonage53. We were given a large table in a quiet corner and the conversation flowed easily. It was felt that Sunday lunch was the one meal we were least likely to have when living alone, so the idea was well received and will probably be repeated in future.

Christmas Quiz, Methodist Chapel, 21st December 2023.

MOTO members fielded two teams with varying degrees of success! We may not have troubled the winners, but we all enjoyed ourselves and the refreshments of mulled wine and mince pies.

Coffee and Chat, Belle's Kitchen and Orchard Cafe, 12th and 13th December 2023

It's difficult to find dates and times that suit everyone, but with a casual coffee morning numbers don't matter. It was lovely to meet those who did make it.

Poppy Concert, Chantry Centre, 28th October 2023.

Several MOTO members attended the concert featuring the local band and choir. The rousing final singalong of Land of Hope and Glory was really moving.

The Mousetrap, Bristol Hippodrome, 26th July 2023

Despite the torrential downpour Applegates' Coaches safely took eleven MOTO members to the matinee of The Mousetrap. The driver dropped and collected us right at the front entrance, which given the atrocious weather, was a godsend. Everyone enjoyed the play (no spoilers here) and our allocated seats were excellent. Many thanks to Applegates' staff, especially the driver!

The Film Orchestra, Chantry Centre, 11th June 2023.

Several local Film Orchestras came together to play "Music from the Films" and gave an outstanding performance, which several of our members thoroughly enjoyed.

Magazine Memories, Methodist Chapel, 15th March 2023.

Ann Scott kindly brought along her extensive collection of magazines from the 1950s to the Methodist Chapel. Browsing through these magazines evoked many memories and a lively session of reminiscences followed. The advertisements provoked much laughter and surprise that some products have hardly changed over the years.
